FAQ

Common Questions

No — not through MeridianRig or most authorized channels. Seakeeper gyros require professional installation for structural fit, seawater cooling, electrical sizing, and warranty commissioning. The Seakeeper 3 and most recreational models are sold with installation, not as standalone units.
Seakeeper estimates 1–3 weeks for a typical gyro refit depending on yard schedule, hull access, and electrical work. Smaller boats with leaning-post installations can sometimes complete in a few days once parts and yard time are booked.
Seakeeper 1–6 run on 12V DC — no generator required for spool-up on most recreational installs. Seakeeper 10 and larger use 208–230V AC gyro motors and need adequate onboard generator or shore power during spool-up. Size house banks for DC models (50–88A peak); verify AC panel capacity for yacht models.
Model sizing guidance, realistic installed-cost expectations, and connection to certified installers in your region. We also sell complementary equipment you may need in the same refit — Victron power systems, Garmin and Simrad chartplotters, and Seakeeper Ride for smaller boats.
If displacement and install space allow, the Seakeeper 4 delivers more angular momentum (4,000 vs. 3,000 N·m·s) in a similar footprint — often the better value on a $/N·m·s basis. A certified installer confirms structural capacity and electrical headroom before you choose.
