Accurate State of Charge for Lithium and AGM Banks
The BMV-712 uses shunt-based coulomb counting — tracking every amp into and out of your battery bank — so SOC readout stays accurate to within 1% after weeks off-grid. Unlike voltage-based gauges that are unreliable for lithium (LiFePO4), the BMV-712 gives you a true fuel-gauge reading at all times. The Bluetooth VictronConnect integration puts SOC, voltage, current, and trend history on your phone without needing a Cerbo GX.
BMV-712 vs. SmartShunt: Which to Choose
The BMV-712 includes a physical helm or nav-station display panel — best when you want battery status visible at a glance without opening an app. The Victron SmartShunt 500A delivers the same monitoring via Bluetooth only, with no panel display. Choose the BMV-712 for a dedicated readout; choose the SmartShunt when panel space is limited.
System Compatibility
Works with Battle Born LiFePO4, RELiON, Lithionics, Trojan AGM, and flooded lead-acid banks. Integrates with Victron Cerbo GX for VRM online monitoring. Optional VE.Direct to NMEA 2000 interface adds data to the vessel's N2K network (Garmin, Simrad, Raymarine MFDs).
Common Applications
- Sailboat or trawler lithium refit — primary house bank SOC monitor
- Catamaran with dual house banks
- Liveaboard with daily charge cycles and precise energy budgeting
- Offshore passage — track days of remaining energy reserve
