Should I flush mount or bail mount?
Bail mount: Faster install, easier service, common on smaller consoles.
Flush mount: OEM appearance, more planning, better for enclosed helms and larger glass bridges.
What do I check before cutting?
- Panel thickness vs. clamp depth
- Clearance behind panel for power, N2K, and sonar cables
- Service loop so you can pull the unit without disconnecting everything
- Companion display spacing if you are mounting two 12" or 16" units side by side
Common question: Can I flush mount myself?
Many owners do on fiberglass with the template, pilot bit, and jigsaw. Aluminum and composite panels need burr-free edges and often a shop. When in doubt, template first, cut second.

Separate dedicated 12 V feeds for MFD and sonar modules where manufacturer requires it. Route NMEA 2000 away from VHF coax when possible.
